User Experience (UX) at the SAUG Summit 2017 – Part 1

By Simon Kemp

This week I was lucky enough to spend two days at the SAP Australian User Group (SAUG) Summit 2017 in Sydney. It was a great chance to catch up with old friends in the SAP Community and to make some new ones. The beautiful new convention centre in the heart of Sydney played host to SAP employees, customers and partners over two days and the SAP Mentors were out in full force. The 14 SAP Mentors in attendance delivered almost one-third (25) of the of the 76 sessions! My contribution was two sessions, both with a UX focus; SAP Screen Personas and BUILD.

In recent years SAP has had a strong focus on improving the User Experience of their products. Both SAP Screen Personas and BUILD are key elements to SAP’s overall UX strategy. It’s important for every SAP customer to understand what tools are available to them to help them improve the experience for all the people inside and outside of their company who use SAP. Spending some time improving your UX can pay big dividends far beyond just ‘more aesthetically pleasing’ screens. My experience has shown me that organisations willing to spend time on UX improvement can see significant benefits that directly impact the bottom line. Key benefits you can expect include:

  • Increased system adoption
  • Increased user productivity
  • Increased user/customer satisfaction
  • Lower training costs
  • Lower support costs
  • Fewer errors
  • Fewer change requests
  • Stronger relationship between IT and the business

Increase your productivity by 40% with SAP Personas

Many SAP screens are overloaded with fields that are hard to use and confusing. This session shows how you can quickly and easily use SAP Screen Personas to simplify and streamline your SAP screens. You don’t need to be on the latest release and you don’t even need SAP HANA, so you can start today and have something up in running in just a few days.

For those who were unable to attend the SAUG Summit, we have included the slides and video for this session below.

Stay tuned, as I will be releasing a second blog which will focus on, ‘How to get started with BUILD, SAP’s UX design and prototyping tool‘ which will also feature the content of this session. If you have any questions or feedback please leave me a comment below.
