Here at Plaut we have such a diverse team with extraordinary expertise in SAP.

However, when these guys arent servicing clients it’s pretty incredible what they get up to.

Eckart Altenkamp our Finance Practice Lead decided to leave behind civilization for a week and not only take on the Simpson Desert Bike Challenge. but won it!

So what is the Simpson Desert Bike challenge?

Each September competitors gather at Purni Bore, South Australia, on the western edge of the Simpson Desert for the Annual Bike Challenge. The course traverses some 700 sand dunes, salt lakes, vast cattle stations and gibber plains. This is a 5-day event covering approx 590km. The final stage ends outside a classic Aussie icon – the Birdsville Hotel.

Here is what the Simpson Desert Champion had to say.

The race was beyond amazing. 593 km in 5 days across the most remote, harsh and beautiful landscape I have ever seen. The weather was as expected: Unpredictable. We had extreme heat (2 days in the high 40’s!), followed by rain (riding in sticky mud caused total chaos). It was hard as. 12 riders signed up this year with only 4 of them managing to cycle 100% of the course.

I had a great ride. Felt good from the start and I actually manage to win the whole thing. Still, I cannot believe it!

Eckart toiled across the Australian outback to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctors. If you would like to donate to this amazing cause you can access our champions page here.

We are so proud of Eckart, but once he has dusted himself down we need him back in the office!
